From the passage, first and foremost I noticed Fokir in the kitchen preparing rice and crab. The second aspect is Piya's case where she has got an aroma of the food which was being prepared, a situation which did intrigue her old memories. The two concepts have a close association since due to the aroma which was emanating from Fokir's kitchen, Piya is developed an appetite of eating such a meal and her old memory is being triggered to an extent that he remembers how poor her feeding habit as she was working at Malampaya. The mood which has been created from the passage was a happy mood as food was prepared and shared among friends (Fokir and Piya). It shows that the old life of suffering has been overcome and now the characters could enjoy their life with food and music. The life had changed to an extent that the food could now be shared without limits and there is a freedom of choice as far as sleep is concerned.

In the passage, the first word which held my attention is the word imprisoned, dismembered and earthenware. The words did not have any relationship to one another since they did have unique meanings and they are not often used in the kitchen. On the other hand, some words like phantom, and wounded or hurt appear to be odd since they are mostly applicable in battlefield. However, since they have been used symbolically to describe a scene, they fit.

Besides, the voice is from the author since it tend to describe what was happening in the lives of the two characters (Fokir and Piya). He uses the color like red, yellow and bronze to describe how the spices were appearing as Fokir was frying the crab. The aroma from these spices hit the nose of Piya, hence did intrigue her senses and old memories.

Besides, in the literary work, symbolism have also been used in various aspect to enhance comparison. For instance, "When she stepped inside, they had greeted her like a domesticated animal, creatures with lives of their own…" to describe how when the mother was frying food, the aroma was so nice and it could be detected by the door. Besides, he have compared the chillies with the phantom which was attacking Fokir while he was cooking. The other stylistic devices such as metaphor has been used. A good example "…put beyond the reach of tigers?" and "she has never had much interest on the terrestrial carnivores." These depicts the taste of Piya towards the other sex. These thus display different patterns of writing in the passage. Some of them are narration and description.

From the analysis, it can be very vital to know that the literary work can be used to express the feelings, mood and the way activities are accomplished in a stylistic manner. It is because it describes the scene from the beginning to an end in a form which shows a high degree of expertise in literature. Besides, it is also more educative and gives readers an insight on the manner rice and crab can be prepared and shuns greediness. It focuses in enhancing good grammar and remind individual about the past.

Editor's analysis

What this essay does well, and where it could be stronger.

Identifies specific vocabulary choices (imprisoned, phantom, wounded) and questions their fit in a kitchen context
Recognizes the sensory chain: cooking aroma triggers Piya's memories of past deprivation
The mood claim ('happy') doesn't account for words like imprisoned, phantom, wounded – a tension worth exploring
Symbolism examples are listed but not interpreted; what does comparing chillies to phantoms reveal about Fokir's experience?
The tiger/carnivore metaphor is mentioned but not connected to the larger analysis of the scene
Conclusion shifts to generic praise rather than synthesizing the close-reading observations into a claim
